Kitchen Worktop Oil

Why do you need to oil your kitchen worktop?

Regularly applying oil to your kitchen worktop will keep it in good condition, protected and safe to use. Wood is a naturally porous surface which can absorb liquids and bacteria from food or other sources, leaving it stained, marked and vulnerable to breeding bacteria. It’s important to treat your wooden kitchen worktop with the correct oil to seal and protect the wood, as well as making it safe to use with food.

Working with wood for nearly a century has given us an unparalleled understanding of how it should be cared for and maintained. We have used our expertise to develop a new Kitchen Worktop Oil – a water and dirt-repellent oil for treating kitchen worktops, chopping boards and other wooden tools. It’s safe and easy to use and meets the highest standards for materials that come into contact with food.

A SAFE AND HEALTHY CHOICE

Treating your wooden worktop and kitchen utensils with an oil that carries the food safe symbol gives you the confidence to place and prepare food directly onto your treated surface. Our Kitchen Worktop Oil protects and prolongs the life of wood, making it more beautiful with age. It works just as well on chopping boards and wooden utensils as it does on worktops.

Our Kitchen Worktop Oil carries the Danish Indoor Climate label. It has undergone extensive emission and odour test to ensure there are no chemical substances in the oil which adversely affect indoor air quality.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHOOSE A SAFE WORKTOP OIL?

Food inevitably comes into contact with materials and surfaces in our kitchens. Using a surface treatment product which is certified as safe to use in food preparation areas means you are protected. Our Kitchen Worktop Oil will not release harmful substances which may affect your health and wellbeing, nor will it affect the taste, odour or colour of food.

HOW TO USE KITCHEN WORKTOP OIL

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Before installation of new wooden worktops and surfaces, liberally apply Kitchen Worktop Oil to all sides and edges (including the underside and back) to prevent the wood from warping.

You will need the following:

  • 100-120 grit sandpaper
  • Clean damp cloth
  • 2 x Junckers lint-free, absorbent cloths, one for application of oil and one for polishing
  • Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil

TO OIL UNTREATED AND/OR SANDED KITCHEN WORKTOPS

1 | A clean and dry surface

Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of dust, wax, polish, and soap residue. Any impurities can be removed by sanding in the direction of the grain using 100-120 grit sandpaper.

2 | Remove any sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner.

3 | Moisten the surface of the wood

Before you start oiling, the surface must be moistened so that the oil can saturate and give a uniform appearance. Use a clean cloth rinsed in clean water, partially wrung out, to moisten the surface over the entire area. The wood must be visibly damp. Leave to dry until the surface no longer feels damp.

5 | Spread the oil

During stage 4 (above) make sure the oil has a shiny/wet appearance over the entire surface. Using the same cloth, distribute the oil from wet to dry areas where the oil has been absorbed.

6 | Remove excess oil

Finally, remove any excess oil with a clean, lint-free cloth for a uniform, matt surface. Any areas of dried oil that are not absorbed will leave patches on the surface which may discolour the worktop.

Allow to dry until the oil is fully cured before the surface comes into contact with food.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR OILED KITCHEN WORKTOP

You will need:

  • Sponge scouring pad
  • 2 x Junckers lint-free, absorbent cloths, one for application of oil and one for polishing
  • Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil

1 | Begin by cleaning the surface thoroughly. Leave to dry until the surface no longer feels damp.

2 | Scour the surface using a scouring pad

3 | Remove any dust by wiping the surface with a clean, damp cloth

4 | Apply one thin coat of Junckers Kitchen Worktop Oil using Junckers lint-free absorbent cloth

5 | Polish the surface using the second lint-free absorbent cloth to achieve a uniform appearance.

Remove any unabsorbed oil within 30 minutes of application. Allow to dry until the oil is fully cured before the surface comes into contact with food.
